His Eyes Told That He Had No Soul..

Monday afternoon. Laughter cascading from my lips as I converse with my co-worker. I catch a glimpse of him as he walks through the door, I recognize him. He has come through the store before. We exchange smiles as he comes to pay. He is a timid, little thing. A walk that lacks confidence. Eye contact. My stomach drops, I don't like him. Instantly.
I force a smile as he pays and tell him to have a good day. He doesn't say a word.
Later that night I was stocking in a smaller area of the store, when I felt a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I glanced out of the corner of my eye, to see him staring at me from afar.
Are you kidding me?
I feel him approach, as he grabs an item from above my head.
"Sorry I'll just get out of your way"
"Oh no your fine". He laughs. His voice was smooth and inviting. Maybe I had the wrong impression. Eye contact. Nope, I was right. I continue stocking. I could feel his stare on the back of my neck. I felt my muscles twitching with anticipation.
For what?
"Hey can I walk you home tonight?" So much for a lack of confidence.
Say No.
"No sorry. I'm kind of in a serious relationship and don't live on campus." I lied.
I looked at a friend of mine who had just walked through the door.
In an instant, his hand was wrapped around my wrist, in a grip that I surely did not expect.
"Let. Go." Anger dripping from my words.
He smiles. "Don't lie to me"
"Let Go."
He laughs. Still a firm grip on my wrist.
"Fine."
I then proceed to thrust my knee into his groin, and my elbow into the side of his head.
He dropped like a rock. My friend runs over to check on him and make sure I didn't do any major damage. Mainly to get a good look at the guys face. I stepped over him, awesome Superhero, action music playing in the back of my head. When he had the ability to stand, he rushed out without a word.
Later, right before close, he came in and began to purchase another item.
"I'm really sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to offend you."
"You know, it would probably be best if you didn't ever come in here again, and make sure I never see your face." I said with a stone-cold stare.
"Understood. Again, I'm really sorry."

I got an escort home that night. I also told them I would be needing an escort for at least the next month.
I called the police station Wednesday night, and visited them Thursday morning and explained what had happened. I didn't press charges, but now his name is in the system for future refrence.
I haven't seen him since.
Oh! I also found this awesome self-defense class I can take next semester that counts as a credit. I'm pretty excited actually :)

  1. oh honey...i wish i could take you in my arms and tell you how brave you are, and tell you how proud i am! but the thing i want most to tell you when you are wrapped in my arms is that it will never happen again. and that is a lie. and i don't want to lie to you ever. this can happen again. and i would like nothing more than to know that you have a self-defense course under your belt.

you don't know how upset i am by this. and i want you to imagine what your father would do to this guy. and then i want you to imagine that times 150! cuz that's what i would do to this guy! and then i want you to pray that i stay up north and let you lead your life. cuz if you pointed him out to me, i would snap that guy into 150 pieces!

get the course. stay alert. be aware.

and continue to be your beautiful self and put all thoughts of this out of the majority of your mind. you are a beautiful young girl and you have, and should have, the world at your beck and call.

    your friend,
    kymber

  2. Oh, wow. Yes, definitely take a self defense class. Any form of physical grasp like that is a huge red flag that this is bad news. I would also look into local laws to see what you can carry, such as pepper spray. I can't imagine it would be a problem for you to have that. Cold Steel sells a pretty good one that is inexpensive. Stay safe.

  3. Thanks Kymber. I know that this could very well happen again, anywhere at anytime. It's just knowing how to handle the situation and staying calm is key. I'm pretty sure I had to beg my dad not to drive down here when I told him haha I couldn't imagine the pain the poor boy would go through.

I plan on it 45er. I know we can carry pepper spray on campus. I keep it in my front pocket now haha I can't wait to take the class :)

  4. My dad gave me a tire thumper to go walking with once. Believe me I would have used it. If you have never seen a tire thumper, it's a piece of wood with a piece of metal wrapped around it. The truckers use them to check their tires. The guy will never bother you again because guys like him are really only bold when they can get you alone. Little creep.

  5. Geez I am going to have to get one of those.. haha. And that's what I was thinking. As long as I don't walk home alone for the next couple of weeks, and stay prepared, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

  6. Rotate your wrist and jerk your arm against the thumb of an attacker. The thumb is the weak point of the grasp. If they dodge the knee to the groin, grab the attacker's index finger and bend it back towards his arm as hard as you can. While he's distracted by the pain of that, kick him in the groin, grab him by the hair and make sure his face going down meets your knee coming up.

Don't fight fair. There's no margin in it for girls. I used to carry a 1" thick hickory cane on campus when I was a student. I'm under 5' tall, and needed all the advantage I could get.

  7. Glad to hear you ok! Definitely take self defense classes, better to be prepared than not. :)

(I want to thank you for going to the cops about him. I know too many people who have let creeps get by with stuff without going to the cops because they were afraid they were somehow doing something wrong by doing it.)

  8. HH- I had learned some of those tricks a while back, but for the life of me I couldn't remember in the moment. Classes are a must, and I'm pretty excited.
coley- Thanks for the comment, and I guess it was just the right thing to do.
